Dundalk midfielder Richie Towell has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for November.

Towell, who was presented with his award today by Leanne Sheill from SSE Airtricity, has now won an incredible three Player of the Month accolades this season to bring his total to five.

The midfielder scored the winner at the Aviva Stadium in Dundalk’s 1-0 extra-time victory over Cork City in the FAI Cup final.

It capped off a magnificent season for the 24-year-old who racked up 25 league goals and was also crowned PFAI Player of the Year.

“It was the perfect end to the perfect season,” Towell admitted.

“To score the winner in the FAI Cup final was amazing and to do it in extra-time added a bit of spice to it.

“I set myself targets at the beginning of the season and winning the PFAI award was one of them so I’m delighted with that.

“To score 25 goals from midfield was great. I really worked hard on my shooting this season and the coaches really helped with that.”

Towell has been strongly linked with a move to the UK, with several Championship clubs chasing his signature.

Brighton and Hove Albion have been one of the clubs leading the charge for Towell but the Dundalk star insists no deal is done yet.

But Towell reckons it will more than likely be a Championship club he joins after turning down offers from clubs in Turkey and Poland.

“Nothing is done yet. It’s all up in the air at the moment and it’s just a waiting game,” he added.

“I was hoping something would have been sorted last week.

“There are a good few clubs in for me but I have to weigh up what is best for me and my family. Hopefully something will be sorted by the end of the week.”

In winning the award, Towell fended off competition from Dundalk team-mate Daryl Horgan who was second. Finn Harps youngster BJ Banda finished third in the voting.
