Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for May.
It is the third time that Horgan has won the monthly award which was presented to him today courtesy of SSE Airtricity. Horgan’s two previous accolades also came in the month of May.
Horgan found the net three times in all competitions during May as the Lilywhites won all six of their games and went four points clear at the top of the table.
The Dundalk winger is thrilled with how Stephen Kenny’s side are doing at the moment and how he has contributed to the team.
“It’s my third time to win it and I’m delighted to get it again,” said Horgan.
“It was a good month for me, we’ve been on a great run and we’ve won seven straight games. The strength and depth of our squad has played a big part.”
Horgan and his Dundalk team-mates travel to Turner’s Cross on Friday for a top-of-the-table clash with Cork City and the Lilywhites star is itching for the game.
“I’m looking forward to it,” explained Horgan. “It’s really exciting and it should be a great one down in Turner’s Cross.
“I think it will be a good game, we’re looking forward to it. Cork are on a good run at the moment too.
“We want to go seven points clear with a win but I’m sure Cork will be looking at this and hoping that they can win so that they can close the gap.”
Horgan fended off competition from Derry City’s Josh Daniels, who was second in the voting, to win the award. Cork City midfielder Greg Bolger was third.
